Hi, we’re Jonathan and Oliver reporting from our classroom,

Today our class studied Saint Patrick’s day including the story of Saint Patrick. We also acted the story out as it was read. We even learned the real reason people wear green! It’s because of the ancient custom of burning green leaves and branches and then spreading the green ashes on their fields. So next time you see someone wearing green you’ll know their really honoring that ancient irish custom, not just celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day.

Pre-K Buddies and more! 1/29/10

We just started a long-term relationship with Ms. Cosgrove’s Pre-K class. Our students read books to the Pre-K students. It was a beautiful moment for the teachers in the room. Third graders were so tender and sweet to the little ones. Enjoy the pics!

We’ve Been Having So Much Fun!!! 1/29/10

We have had a fun-filled several weeks! There are pictures from our first workshop with Beauty and the Beast Storytellers. The students have AMAZED me with their story renditions. They are taking all the tips that Mitch and Martha share with them. Students work in small groups retelling their stories and adding expression as they go. Fun, fun! Please come to Storytelling Night, Wednesday, Feb 10 @ 6:30pm.

A “Jointless” Science Lesson 1-22-10

We had a wonderful time in science today. Students taped each other’s thumb and finger joints and then had to do a series of tasks. It was really interesting to see what tasks were easy for them. For example, they had to transfer popcorn kernels to different viles, write a letter, make a paperclip necklace, etc.

A Busy Day 1-13-10

Today was a very full day. We practiced our word sorts for Words Their Way, and learned to play Multiplication Baseball. Ask your child about how to play, and they can recreate the game for you at home. We also have included a picture of us getting ready for our annual Winterfest! Today I worked as a manager for the Snowball Throwing station at the festival. It was a blast. Thanks to Aaron’s dad for helping me with all of that. Enjoy the pics. Owl Pellet Dissection Today – Jan 12, 2010

Fun, fun, and more fun! This morning in computer lab we did a virtual owl pellet dissection, and this afternoon we dissected real owl pellets. Students worked diligently to separate the bones from the fur. It was enjoyable to see how interested they were in finding as many rodent bones as possible. We glued the bones to a diagram to see how many we gathered.

Mr. Bones Puzzle Fun – Jan. 9, 2010

It was really fun building Mr. Bones without having any bones resources in front of us. Students worked with partners and helped each other to put the puzzle together. When they were finished, they checked to see if they were correct. Everyone had fun dancing our skeletons around the room.

Our Science Unit “Human Body” has started – Jan 5, 2010

Our lesson today was jumping rope with a partner to see how the bones in our body move. It was great fun when Vera hooked her rope on the door by accident! We also counted as many bones as we could from each section of our bodies.
